Action Artist

I am an action artist: an actor primarily involved in performing exciting scenes of physical ability and risk, both perceived and real. I am adept at a range of action skills (motorcycles, high falls, stair falls, trampettes, jerk backs, climbing, abseiling, etc), but I specialise in armed and unarmed screen combat.

Sometimes I play a principle role (Everything Everything: Distant Past, To Kill A King: Love Is Not Control) and other times I feature in the combat background (Macbeth, Beowulf, The Hollow Crown, Babylon, etc). Behind the camera, I provide fight coordination and direction (Trendy, The Libertines: Heart of the Matter) and train actors and artists (Frank Turner: Next Storm).

I have been involved in physical acting for over 12 years. I am a graduate of the London School of Lucha Libre and have completed the British Action Academy’s Warrior Masterclass : the only screen acting qualification recognised by the UK TV and film industry.

For total clarity: I am not a member of equity, nor am I on the JISC Register of Stunt Professionals.

I am an independent physical actor with a set of specialist skills.

Music

Music

My band, Gay Bum, has been a unique force of nature since 2008. These days, we operate as an acoustic duo shoved into that rarest and most awkward of musical genres: comedy.

The reality is that we get on stage and play whatever we find fun; the people watching our shows tend to find it fun as well, which is lucky. In my mind, that makes less like comedy and more like fun-punks. Funks?!

We formed in Leeds in 2008. Nobody knows how many gigs we have played since then. We lost count somewhere around 300.

We’ve played to audiences of hundreds, and audiences of two; everywhere from music festivals and tattoo conventions, to private birthdays and a Cambridge University garden party.

Our performances range from 15 minutes to an hour, and are deeply and genuinely chaotic. Our longest gig was three hours, but we don’t talk about that.

We don’t record our music because it eliminates all context, timing and improvisation. We are, however, considering a video recording of a live gig.
